Author Talk by Deepak Dalal

“Writing is an exploration, you start from nothing and you learn as you go.”

 – E. L. Doctorow

We, from our early childhood, were forced by our content driven education system to use writing as a tool to fill-up our ‘classwork and homework’ round the year and answer supplements during exams, and not as a tool to transform our creativity, curiosity into words. Where as, at Victorious Kidss Educares, in a school with a difference, we develop, through inquiry and ‘learning to love to learn’, I want to write, I want to read, I want to find and discover the answer to this question? As a part of a learning journey, we have, as a motivating tool, many indoor and outdoor interactive sessions. This time, we took up, an initiative to expose our kids to people who could guide them through the true essence of creative writing and initiatives as such is what makes Victorious Kidss Educares “A school with a difference”. We teach students to ‘love to learn’.
On December 6th, 2018, Victorious Kidss Educares collaborated with one of the most famous Indian children’s storyteller and author, Deepak Dalal, to share, what he has gained over the years, his secrets, his wisdom, his wide experiences and expertise on ‘creative writing’, with our students.
Deepak Dalal, who is also a traveler and a naturalist, has inspired young readers through his adventure series revolving around two teenagers – Vikram and Aditya and illustrated ‘Feather Tales’ series that portrays nation’s biodiversity.
Our young inquirers of PYP 5 were enthralled by the videos and presentation on migrations of birds he shared. He also spoke about his writing approach and how he comes up with ideas for his fascinating books like ‘Feather Tales: A Flamingo in My Garden’, ‘The paradise flycatcher’ and ‘The Falcon’.
MYP 3 graders were awed to hear from him about his life and how he created his books ‘Ranthambore’, ‘Ladakh Adventures’ and many others inspired by his real-life travel adventures.
With his down to earth and humorous approach, he shared many anecdotes from his travelogues. He was surprised to see the ‘Travel Diaries’, written by our students of MYP 3 as a part of their ‘Language and Literature’ ongoing unit of curriculum and he congratulated them all for such creative inputs.
Our children are marching ahead with their desire and love for writing

Victorious Kidss Educares strives continuously to create a ‘Learning Revolution.’
We, as teachers, parents and adults are required to be aware, to be conscious at all times, that our children are no longer the people, as we were in our school!”
We need, every day of our schooling processes, a revolution in the learning world. Education should be such, by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased, by which, one can stand on their own feet.
