SHRAMDAAN DAY

Sunday the 2nd of October 2016, the Birthday of Gandhi Ji is celebrated as ‘Gandhi Jayanti’. This day was once a National Holiday in our country, but ever since the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji, has declared, that a greater tribute to ‘The Father of Indian Nation’ would be to work for the country. Hence, this day has become a working day.

According to the Gandhian Philosophy, ‘Work is Worship and Shramdaan is essential for wholesome development’. Shramdaanis one way is to help and be the change. It is a voluntary contribution through physical effort.

At Victorious Kidss Educares, we celebrated Shramdaan by encouraging our kids to participate in a few acts of random kindness. Under the supervision of teachers, our students enthusiastically participated in various activities, to understand the importance of following the philosophy of Gandhiji. Some of the activities undertaken by them were sweeping of the school surrounding, watering of plants, cleaning of pots, collecting trash from classes, painting of the pots, arranging store room, cleaning corridor, serving tea to maids and teachers, marking the playground, etc.

Children enjoyed volunteering and sharing their work with each other. Shramdaan Day at school became a source of fun and inspiration for them as they felt a sense of contentment, by contributing something to the society and by serving others without expecting anything in return. They realized that each one, by their work, had the power to change this world for the betterment of the people. Work really became fun. Work really became worship.
